# Quantum Mechanics II — conversion review

PHYS 334, Chris O’Donovan, Spring 2005, University of Waterloo. Notes by Benjamin Smith. The source author declaration, original disclaimer, instructor credit and corrections contact are retained.

## Originals and folder review

The course folder contains PHYS334.tex and PHYS334.pdf; no supplements or asset folders were listed. Both were downloaded read-only from Dropbox on 22 October 2026 and verified against Dropbox content hashes. Unchanged originals and their revisions, byte sizes and SHA-256 hashes are preserved with provenance/quantum-mechanics-ii.json. The original PDF has 31 pages. No Dropbox changes were made.

## Conversion and checks

- Pandoc 3.12.1 emits native MathML without warnings; no source substitutions were required.
- All 8 sections, 24 subsections, 5 subsubsections, 7 body footnotes and 903 math expressions are retained. There are no tables, images or external dependencies.
- The source has one additional subsection inside a TeX comment environment (Bohr model of the Hydrogen atom). Pandoc correctly omits it, as does the PDF; its heading is explicitly excluded from the source-count check.
- All 10 shared-counter statements match PDF labels: Theorem 2.1; Proposition 3.1; Proposition 4.1; Examples 4.2–4.4; Proposition 5.1; Theorem 6.1; Examples 7.1–7.2. Remark 1 uses its independent counter. Both proofs are retained.
- Restored all eleven global equation numbers (1)–(11), following source order and PDF labels. All ten equation references link to their targets.
- PDF visual review sampled pages 3, 17 and 22: the initial Schrödinger equation, perturbation corrections and angular wavefunction. This is not a line-by-line physics/mathematics proofread.

## Differences and limits

HTML reflows the printed page layout, including the source’s 6.0.x and 7.0.x subsubsection numbering. Long equations scroll within the reading column. Footnotes move to the end; title-page thanks are represented in the page credits/contact. Browser MathML and embedded PDF rendering can vary; separate PDF open/download links remain available.

Existing wording and source mistakes remain. For example, the time-independent equation discussion contains a missing equals sign in the source expression for H psi_n, and the identical-particles discussion repeats psi(r_2,r_2). Personal uncertainty notes and historical typos are retained rather than silently edited. Consult the original PDF and treat the conversion review separately from an editorial correction pass.

## Browser review

Checked the reading page at desktop width and at 390px. The document remained 390px wide on the phone viewport with all 903 MathML nodes present. Section search for perturbation returned the two expected sections; reading anchors and the PDF panel worked. The sampled boxed equation decoration is not visible in this browser’s native MathML rendering, although the equation content is present; the PDF retains the original boxes. This is a documented typography limitation.
